So there has been a song floatin' round recently on ads and the internet called 'Little Boxes.' Apart from being ridiculously catchy it is also horrifically true about society today and raises a point that has drove me mad for ages.
Here's a cover of the song by an AMAZING band called Walk off the Earth: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LM8JhvfoqdA (I also suggest checking out some of their other stuff cause they really are awesome)
So basically the song is about the robotic nature of people today. How they just do things because everyone else does them, because other people want them to, because they feel it is expected of them to do a certain thing, that we are all on a conveyor belt and are all just being made the same.

Here's verse 2:
And the people in the houses
All went to the university
Where they were put in boxes
And they came out all the same
And there's doctors and lawyers
And business executives
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.
All went to the university
Where they were put in boxes
And they came out all the same
And there's doctors and lawyers
And business executives
And they're all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.
How many people do you know that are working in jobs they hate? Or even worse how about people at university do you know working towards a job they don't particularly want to do? It SHOCKS me how many people are leading themselves down a road of misery. People are under the impression that if they just get so far in life or get that job that society deems to be amazing, or get that car or that house that they will be happy. Wake up. If your're not happy with what your're doing now, get out, cause chances are things won't change. We are all so blinded by the 'American Dream', by what parents want us to do, by what friends are doing, by what society says is good. We are all being put in boxes.
It's not just jobs or uni etc that this applies to. It can be said for EVERYTHING. I mean even relationships, just because people say you are both good together, just because things aren't going bad doesn't mean they are right - just because there are no clouds doesn't mean you should ignore the fact that there are no rainbows. You will get all boxed up, get married because it's been a couple of years and that's just the next step and may ended up settling for something okay that should be exceptional. I think divorce rates are so high these days because of the conveyor belt. People get their degree and their jobs and are just like "hmm what else is missing?" then go out and find someone who is also looking for that missing piece of that jigsaw that has no picture (Grey, colourless life) - and get hitched.
And they all have pretty children
And the children go to school,
And the children go to summer camp
And then to the university
Where they are put in boxes
And they come out all the same.
Yup, and then it all starts over again. You might think I'm being skeptical or a bit extreme (hey maybe I am :P) but all you need to do is look around. You see these people everywhere. Grey people just living out their routine with no joy, no colour. Look at your teachers, look at your parents, look at your colleagues, look at your friends... a lot of them are bordering on miserable.

You know what I am? I'm a dog chasing cars. I wouldn't know what to do with one if I caught it! - The Joker
I never thought I would be taking wise words from the joker but hey :L I think that's a great way to describe people. They chase careers, money, meaningless relationships, fake happiness and if they actually DID get the things they so long desire, not only what they not know what to do, but they would be unhappy.
Try not to be put in a box - the only time you should be put into a box is when your dead ( awkward morbid humour) Do what makes you happy not what you think you should do, but what you want to do. I mean honestly what is the point of chasing careers and money if your going to be miserable?
As always don't be afraid to get in touch or suggest a blog topic, if you have me on Facebook you can grab me there, or if you a beautiful blogger drop a me comment :D!
