Have to admit I had a good wee chuckle about the title of this blog, don't know why maybe its my love of alliteration or my love for all things random.
Anyway. So this topic was always going to come up at some point
and i'm sure it will come up many times more - dreams.
You can't get away with having a blog title and URL about them without discussing them. So here we go.
There are a few reasons to my obsession with dreams. But firstly I think it is important to distinguish what dreams are. For me there are two types. There are dreams you have while your asleep (lets call them 'sleep dreams' for the sake of this blog) about dragons and wizards and sheep and life and love and people and places and peanut butter and heavens knows what else - the list is truly endless. And then there are dreams to do with real life ambitions and goals, the thing/things you wish and hope for (lets call them 'life dreams')
Sleep dreams have always absolutely fascinated me; but what has fascinated me even more is how casually accepted they are. I mean if you stop to think about it sleep dreams are really really really weird. We have all woken up after a dream at some point in our lives and wondered 'what the heck was that all about?' The most bizarre yet the most wonderful things can happen in dreams, when dreaming we live in a world of our own, purely made by our own mind, yes sometimes based on real life people and places but it is pure creative creation. Did you know that the 'random' people in your dreams are actually faces of people you have already seen like in the street or on the train, we just don't really remember them - but our subconscious does.
In our dreams we live in a world without any limits, you can literally do anything you can possibly 'dream' of (flying dreams are great :L), and we all it experience them regularly but yet we almost seem not to take any notice of them. The main reason I suppose for my obsession/interest in dreams is because I have a somewhat rare sleeping disorder called 'Chronic Fatigue Syndrome,' don't freak out, it's not serious but more importantly this blog isn't about to turn into a science textbook (although sadly I know some of you would actually enjoy that) so chill. I'll keep it short and sweet. When we are sleeping we go through different cycles of different types of sleep lets just say for now we have two - heavy sleeping and light sleeping. Basically with my sleeping 'disorder' I spend most of the night in light sleep resulting in - yes a bad quality of sleep but also more frequent and much more vivid dreams...Although it is classed as a 'condition' or a 'disorder' and yes I have gone through alot of crap in the past with it but I honestly consider it to be a gift and a blessing. If I had a choice, I would keep it. Besides, your body gets used to it and now I have the ability to have unreal dreams and also go without very little sleep. Ok so I may never be able to become a professional bodybuilder like Peter Weir or Ricky Thompson and I may pick up some extra bugs and flu's but I think it's totally worth it. Also the release of the glorious movie Inception has also got even more interested in sleep dreams! (one of my favourite movies, if for some weird reason you haven't seen it we can no longer be friends until you have)

If you have fallen asleep or drifted off during that last wee bit i'm sorry but lessons over and it's now time wake up - unless your dreaming of course ;) I wrote a poem recently that is somewhat about dreams. Basically I was staying with a close friend and when it had come to going to sleep they began to snore insanely loud, at first I was like yeah, no bother at all but half an hour later I began contemplating wakening him. I was literally about to when for some stupid reason I thought it would be cruel to interrupt him from his sleep and more importantly his dreams... Here it is!
A Snoring Friend
And I awake to a monstrous sound
A snore that continues to come and go.
The sniffles and snuffles of a hound,
I wish to wake him but then think: no
For I would not be taking him from his rest,
But rather stealing him from his dreams.
Even if he is something of a pest
Doesn't he deserve the best?
To run beside the lovely streams-
To climb the hills, laugh, be free.
To see what no one else will ever see,
To soar up higher than ever before
To experience something so much more.
For in our dreams we truly live…
And this moment is the least I can give,
For a troubled soul starting to mend
Of a close and dear, snoring friend.
More on this later.

To climb the hills, laugh, be free.
To see what no one else will ever see,
To soar up higher than ever before
To experience something so much more.
For in our dreams we truly live…
And this moment is the least I can give,
For a troubled soul starting to mend
Of a close and dear, snoring friend.
"For in our dreams we truly live…" - Matthew Thompson.
Not just the dreams we have when we are asleep, but the ones we hope for when our eyes are open as well.
(That's where the URL came from if anyone was wondering, from the poem)
This blog and the posts in it won't have much structure, no regular routine or be bound by any particular topics. The blog a dandelion that I am blowing with the hope that one little 'seed of idea' will plant itself inside your mind and simply stop to make you think. This is all I want.
As always if you want to suggest a topic, discuss things I have said or even just want a wee chat please get in touch. Facebook me if you have me on there or for you beautiful bloggers you can drop me a comment.

"If we are not living our dreams then are we really living at all?" - Matthew Thompson.
A really cool/funny thing you should start doing is keeping a piece of paper beside yo bed and writing down each dream as soon as you wake up in case it is forgetten. You will not be disappointed trust me, some of the stuff we dream in horrendously random and hilarious, you will get a few giggles that's for sure.
Hope you are well and have a great day as always!
Live a lot not a little! Thanks for reading :)
Matt.
