Exam season always brings out the worst in people. We all shy away and refuse to socialise so we can spend time studying (even though we all know we spend the majority of our time eating, sulking around the house, tweeting too much or staring at the wall - anything to avoid revision.) Don't get me wrong it's important to do your best and all that jazz - it's great, but do you think we place too much importance on exams? grades? jobs? money?
People always take the attitude oh it's not fun but it has to be done - short term pain for long term gain, just once I get this thing over with then I'll be fine...
This places nearly all our emphasis on the future, that things will be better once we're older or once we get our exams done, or get that job, get that car, get married etc etc etc.
I hate to break it to you - but it doesn't work like that. It's a vicious cycle and I think is a major flaw in today's society, this irrational sense of longing borderlines on greed and will only lead to bad and sad places.
"running in circles, chasing our tails" - Coldplay, The Scientist (Finally got a bit of Coldplay in there! :D)
It's what we are doing. Nothing will ever be enough, we will just want more. All you gotta do is look at celebs - some of the most 'successful' people in the world and the half of them are quite frankly miserable.
We are putting today's happiness on hold. We are under the impression that to follow our dreams and to just generally be happy we need to tick certain boxes or be at a certain point in our lives.
What are you waiting for?
I don't need to remind you how short life is. To think just how quickly even the last couple of years have gone is just terrifying.
I want to encourage you to start living today. Got a great idea? Work on it. Why not start that book or hobby you have been thinking about, why not set up that business you have been contemplating, why don't you make that phone call, send that text, ask that person, book that trip/holiday... Why not do it today? Because frankly tomorrow might be too late.
I'm not even talking about massive things. It's just a matter of putting the text book down for an hour and meeting up with a friend or doing something a little out of the blue. Simply just a little thing that makes you enjoy and appreciate life cause if you're not doing that then what's the point in it all?
Life isn't just hard, life is a mess. It's the most hellish rollercoaster imaginable - you gotta make the best of the highs cause you are sure going to need them to get through the lows.
Please wake up. Stop holding out for whatever you are holding out on. Life is what you make it after all. Get going. Enjoy it while it lasts - what are you waiting for?
So I realise this has been more of rant then anything else - but hey, hopefully it's food for thought.

I'll leave you with a Star Wars quote. cause that's just how I roll:
"be mindful of the future but not at the expense of the moment" - Star Wars The Phantom Menace.
Live a lot not a little! Thanks for reading :)
